I have developed relationships with many of the parents through the Father’s Pride Committee as well as many of the
teachers. I am sworn in as an Essex County Judicial Volunteer and have served with the Children’s Supervised Visitation
Program. I have submitted my petition with the required resident signatures to Mr. Appleton at the board of education. I
have been meeting with many of the elected officials to solicit their support or guidance. My petition for nomination in 2008
was signed by Assemblymen and County Freeholder Mr. Ralph Caputo, Belleville School District Assistant Superintendent
Mr. Dennis Villano, Board of Education Trustee Vice President Vincent Strumolo, Jr., Board of Education Trustee Mrs.
Antoinette Marone, Board of Education Trustee Mrs. Arlene K. Schor, Board of Education Trustee Mr. Eric Schwartz and
other prominent community leaders. I have been endorsed by Councilwoman Mrs. Marie Strumolo-Burke of the First Ward
and the Coalition for a Better Government a group of concerned Belleville residents. However, I am more concerned with
working with each parent on behalf of their child first.

Here is a quick look at my background. I was born in Puerto Rico. I am a long time resident of Belleville. I am a life long
New Jersey resident. My wife Carmen and I are home owners and residents of Belleville for many years. I have two young
children, ages 7 and 10, who will attend the Belleville school district for the next 10 years. My wife and I believe that
education is a life long behavior. I have a Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing and will complete my Masters of Science
degree in nursing shortly. My wife has her Bachelors of Arts and a Masters of Arts in English Literature from Seton Hall
University. My 27 year old daughter has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Old Dominion University and was pursuing her
Medical Degree at the University of Colorado (Denver). My 34 year old son attended Rutgers University. He has an
Associate Degree in Nursing from Essex County Community College and worked in the operating room at Clara Mass
Medical Center in Belleville as a Registered Nurse. I am a decorated United States Navy veteran with an honorable
discharge. I am a proud American citizen ready to serve our country and community.

I am running for several reasons.  I have been approached by many in our community with their concerns. Many of the
parents with children in the school district are my friends and we all feel that much more can be done to make the
infrastructure of our schools better. The use of our resources can be better managed to provide a safer environment for
the children of all schools. Our school facilities need to be utilized further with programs to provide activities after school
hours to keep our children active and off the streets. My wife and I are constantly assisting members of the community
with school issues as well as city business. I have established relationships with some of the members of the board which
remain intact. I have support from many parents, teachers, elected officials and the diverse ethnic groups within the
community.

I believe that we are obligated to play an active role in the safety and development of our children. Representing our
community in a variety of settings will allow me to enhance the outcomes for my children and those children around them.
Together we can bring the concerns of our communities to the forefront and take an active part in the solutions of these
concerns. We need to work as one not just for oneself.

I have so much I would like to say to you. I have provided a forum for open dialogue. You can meet with me on April 15,
2011 to hear my ideas and discuss your concerns. I need to know if I can count on your support. I will need all the help I
can get. My campaign will be run in a non partisan manner. I may not get the support of all the political powers because I
do not want to owe anyone my vote. I want my obligations to be directed toward the children and their parents, not
powerful politicians. Let me know if I can count on you. Call me to discuss your thoughts at 201 679-6955 cell or 973 759-
0286 home. I will remain attentive and caring to you and your children regardless of your decision to support me or help
me during this campaign. Thank you for your time and I look forward to discussing your concerns.

Sincerely,

Ralph Vellon

Hello friends,

I wanted to take a minute of your time to discuss a
personal matter of importance to me. I am running
for one of the two trustee seats for the Belleville
Board of Education on April 27, 2011. This is a
nonpaying position, but it requires integrity and
dedication. I need your support because our
children deserve better then what they are
receiving.

Many of you know how much I care for children. My
involvement with the youth sports recreation
leagues as a coach demonstrates my desire to
nurture our children. I am also a card holding
member of the Belleville PTA. My wife is President
of the PTA at school #5. The issues that face the
Board of Education are familiar to me. I attend
public board meetings. I have met and spoken with
community leaders.
